Rare and unusual pipe, depicting a Vanitas-Memento Mori in meerschaum. The long mouthpiece is carved and carved in light and dark ox horn. The alternating elements that compose it are carved and carved with curvilinear motifs giving a wavy profile. A smooth silver band is the connection to the upper, flexible end. In the large bowl of the pipe, in smooth meerschaum, at the top, there is a cover in 900/1000 silver, depicting a skull. The pipe was smoked with the cover closed and the smoke came out of the eye holes and the two nostrils. Vienna, Austria circa 1880. (The support base is for photographic use only, not for sale).
