Jeweled silver walking stick depicting chrysanthemums, signed Tiffany, USA 1890-1900.
United States 1890-1900
9000 EURO
Walking Stick: A jeweled cane, a curved handle in sterling silver, 925/1000, embossed and chiselled, featuring the Tiffany Chrysanthemum floral motif. The design is distinguished by the density of the flowers and foliage. Chrysanthemum represents one of the last great designs of the Victorian period. It was designed and patented in 1880 by Charles T. Grosjean (d. 1888), just two years after Tiffany won top honors at the 1878 Paris World’s Fair for his Japanese mixed-metal silver. This motif is influenced by Japan: chrysanthemums are a Japanese symbol of life, optimism and joy. The design, which the company has used on everything from flatware to vases to candlesticks, has always been one of Tiffany’s most sought-after designs. Hallmarked Tiffany & Co., Union Square, New York. Ebony wood shaft. Metal ferrule. USA 1890-1900.
