Educated at the Free University of Brussels, he apprenticed to Belgian sculptor Charles van der Stappen in 1882, spending the next nine years perfecting his medal-engraving skills for which he became widely known. Through Van der Stappen, Dubois befriended the great Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta, who built Dubois house and studio on the outskirts of Brussels in 1903. Belgium circa 1900.
