Antique miniature corkscrew from a pharmacy counter.
This tiny corkscrew was used to remove corks from medicine and perfume bottles. Medical and perfume bottles used corks in the late 19th century, before the introduction of the cork almost all bottles had corks, including medicines, perfumes and alcohol. The corkscrew is made of nickel-plated steel, the screw is known as a worm design with edges that easily cut through cork. The knob, in the shape of a skull, is made of carved stag horn. The worm cover, however, made of carved hammerwood, depicts mirror-image leaves with a small sphere at the end. The whole thing is supported by a round-shaped copper and bronze support. Italy circa 1880.
