Silver handle walking stick with cameo, signed Balbino, Turin, Italy 1860.

Walking stick: jeweled walking stick, silver knob in the shape of a milord worked in tourchon, with engraved and gilded parts. At the top of the knob, it is set a finely carved white shell cameo depicts a neoclassical female face in profile, with a rich hairstyle decorated with a garland of flowers. The facial expression, almost realistic, in the manner of Renaissance sculptures, is a testimony to the skill of the engraver. Ebony Macassar wood shaft with metal ferrule. Signed Carlo Agostino Balbino (1777-1867). One of the most brilliant Italian silversmiths of the first half of the 19th century, founding the largest silver factory in Turin. He participated in the Turin National Exhibition of 1898. He was one of the favorite silversmiths of the House of Savoy. Balbino silver is also found in the Quirinale Palace in Rome.
