A wunderkammer marine specimen: an ancient pair of shells or carapaces of a hawksbill sea turtle (Eretmochelys Imbricata Linnaeus, 1766), the structure in bone and cartilage, originally covered by scales. The specimen is mounted on carved and gilded pine wood bases. A bronze candle holder is placed in the rear part, to illuminate the back of the carapace. Italy circa 1850.
